Hot-dipped galvanized steel(HDG) is cold rolled carbon steel coated with a zinc -based substance for rust resistance. The coating serves as a sacrificial anode, so that it cathodically protects exposed steel. This means that even if the coating is scratched or abraded, the exposed steel will still be protected from corrosion by the remaining zinc – an advantage absent from paint, powder coating and other methods.
Galvanized is used widely in the automotive, construction and packaging. The galvanized steel we mainly supply, is tab stock with aluminum powder coating which is used for making pull rings on the easy open end.
